Scientists Solve the Mystery of the Mayan Calendar

Scientists Solve the Mystery of the Mayan Calendar

Science is rarely settled and requires the ability to be constantly updated in real-time. This is why I believe school "books," should be digital, downloadable and web-based.

It is a sad commentary on our current educational system that we are teaching our kids the same basic outdated, obsolete and often times decades-old false information in print form which requires the printing of new books in order to provide accurate and timely information. I recently looked at a 6th grade World History book and it still refers to the Seven Wonders of the World and the 6 pyramids in Egypt.

Today, we know there are more than 10,000 pyramids mapped around the world and more being discovered all the time, particularly now that we have LIDAR technology which allows drones to fly over forest areas like the Amazon and see beneath the canopy. It's even available on the latest iPhones and iPads.

In brief scholars have discovered:
  • How multiple planet movements tie into the 819-day Mayan calendar.
  • The 819 days of the calendar must be viewed across a 45-year time period to fully understand.
  • The movements of all major planets visible to the ancient Mayans fit into this extended calendar.
Popular Mechanics recently did an article that details their findings. You can read the full story here.
